Hi, my name is Monica, and I’m so excited to join the team as a therapist at Half Cup Counseling! I truly believe that we are all just humans doing our best to navigate life’s twists and turns, shaped by our unique stories and experiences. To me, the heart of therapy is building a real, authentic connection where you feel truly seen and heard. My goal is to walk alongside you as we explore the parts of your life that might feel a little scary or confusing with kindness, curiosity, and zero judgment. Together, we’ll dive into your feelings, look at things from fresh perspectives, and find new tools to help you face life’s ups and downs with confidence.

I bring over 15 years of experience working in all kinds of settings, from residential programs for adolescent boys, to foster care case management, to therapeutic day schools supporting students with cognitive, behavioral, and autism-related challenges. For the past nine years, I have been a social worker and behavior specialist in public schools, where I’ve seen just how much some students need a stronger voice and better support. I am passionate about advocacy and helping people express themselves, since behavior is often just another way of communicating what’s going on inside. My mission is to uncover those underlying messages and support you in making lasting changes that boost your quality of life and self-worth.

About four years ago, I began my own personal journey of healing after developing some puzzling symptoms that led to a diagnosis of Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune thyroid condition. It has been a rollercoaster, sometimes frustrating, defeating, and isolating, but it’s also made me even more empathetic toward anyone facing chronic health challenges. I want you to know you are not alone, and together we can find ways to cope and thrive despite life’s many unexpected surprises.

When I’m not working, you can find me traveling, singing karaoke, reading, gardening, dancing my heart out in musicals, or hanging with my husband, daughter, and our pets. Theater has been a huge part of my life helping me build confidence, find my voice, and connect with a community where being “different” feels like a superpower. Voice lessons especially helped me discover the strength in my own voice, and I love passing that encouragement on to others.

Above all, I believe life, and therapy, should have plenty of joy and laughter sprinkled in. I can’t wait to share that with you!
